Western countries are rapidly evolving into police states. This is the description of “police state” according to Wikipedia:“A police state describes a state whose government institutions exercise an extreme level of control over civil society and liberties. There is typically little or no distinction between the law and the exercise of political power by the executive, and the deployment of internal security and police forces play a heightened role in governance.”Pay attention! This is defining the current reality of pro-Palestinian people in many countries. The majority is not aware of the erosion in civil rights in these countries. The only way to survive this is to engage in political life, by establishing new political parties, movements and alliances. Civil action will not be sufficient on its own. This is not just about Gaza and the Palestinians anymore. This is about the world you, me and our children will live in.

Very happy to share my latest work (and my first solo paper!), published in the Revista de Derecho Penal y Criminología (sadly, Spanish only...). In it, I reflect on different legislative developments in Spain and their impact on restorative justice, from a particularly critical perspective regarding the position adopted by the Spanish legislator in terms of prohibiting the use of restorative justice in cases of sexual and gender-based violence. I hope you can find it interesting!https://lnkd.in/eD2Nf7Ne

Thank you, Arild Spandow, for highlighting this critical issue. I completely agree with the concerns raised here. The Norwegian government’s increasing tendency to transfer wealth to the public sector is alarming. This approach leads to a larger state and declining private Norwegian ownership. The suggestion to hand over shares to the tax authorities to pay wealth or exit taxes is a clear step towards eroding private ownership. In contrast, countries like the US and the UK foster environments where entrepreneurship and innovation thrive, leading to evolving businesses and stronger market performance. This stark difference highlights the need for Norway to rethink its tax policies to support private value creation and ownership, rather than stifling it.Moreover, the hostility towards capital in Norway might be reflected in the continued decline of the Norwegian krone’s value. As business owners and entrepreneurs are driven to leave the country, we face a “brain drain” that further weakens our economy. It’s crucial for us to create a more favorable climate for private ownership and investment to ensure long-term economic stability and growth.

#Right to a #fair trial !!I often wonder, what happens to our basic human right and right to be treated with dignity? It is sad but through as I have experienced this myself, unfortunately the #justice system in the #Netherlands is not blind. Most of the current judges, be it first instance court or the court appeal are so #biased and so #prejudice in the way of preceding their case. They forget the oath they took, to protect, make sure that everyone has the right to a fair trial which is a basic human right ( #customary law, Art. 6-11 #UDHR, Art. 14 & 16 of the #ICCPR ). The Netherlands is a #monist state (Artt. 93 and 94 DCC) where international law takes priority in all of our courts and jurisdictions. Why are we now seeing more trends on people breaching the international law and our #constitutional law ( Art.1, 17 DCC)as well?We need to keep speaking up and start calling them out. Calling the names of individuals who abuse their authorities as a judge or judges. We need to bring them more and more to the court of public #opinion, public #power, name and shame them to finally do their freaking jobs. They work for the public and should never forget who their bosses are (we the public). 2024 is the time for change.

In a confusing world flooded with misinformation, principled journalism must step forward and earn the public trust. Now, with hundreds of news partners and alignment with leading digital platforms, The Trust Project leads the way in news transparency with our globally recognized Trust Indicators. The Trust Project’s guiding principles stem from those developed in 1947 by the Hutchins Commission. During that era, just as in our time, the public held a deep suspicion of the press. The Hutchins Principles spell out the commitments a free and responsible press must live by. Trust Project News Partners display the 8 Trust Indicators, which incorporate a commitment to:Fairness and accuracy.Publishing corrections or clarifications as promptly as possible.Disclosures that explain our mission, source(s) of funding and the organization behind us.Insight into our methods and where we get our information.A diversity of voices and perspectives.Opportunities for public engagement.Nos toca a todos visitar el website, entender bien lo que tenemos que exigirle a todos los medios - periodicos, television, etc. - y que no estamos dispuestos a trabajo mediocre e inclusive totalmente falso.
