Prismatic has fundamentally changed the buildcraft scene in Destiny 2. This new subclass acts as a sort of multiclassing system that's curated by Bungie, giving players limited access to all subclass keywords, abilities, and even Aspects.

Yet where Prismatic starts to differ is in its selection of Fragments. Instead of porting different Fragments from each subclass, Prismatic offers 21 unique options that act as mutated variants of Light and Dark Fragments. Some fan-favorites make a return here, while entirely new Fragments have entered the spotlight. To help you create the strongest builds possible, we've created a tier list that ranks each Fragment from worst to best. Let's go over how the tier list works and begin ranking all 21 Prismatic Fragments from best to worst.
Tier List Rankings Explained
Before we start ranking each of the Prismatic Fragments, let's explain what each tier represents. Rankings are entirely subjective, but we look at the practicality of each Fragment for both PvE and PvP across all three classes. We focus on PvE usage for our rankings. If any Fragments are strong outliers for the Crucible, we'll make a mention of them.
- S Tier: Meta. Fragments in this tier are powerful and widely used across all Prismatic builds.
- A Tier: Powerful. Fragments in this tier excel in many situations and are a solid choice for most builds. If you have a spare slot, you should use one of these.
- B Tier: Niche. Fragments in this tier tend to excel under certain situations, but they are quite strong when used in the right build.
- C Tier: Weak. Fragments in this tier are held back by poor values, long cooldowns, or a lack of synergy with the rest of Prismatic. You generally want to avoid these.
- D Tier: Terrible. Nothing in this tier should be considered for buildcraft. They're either severely underpowered or offer no practical benefits.
S-Tier Fragments
The S tier has some incredibly strong Fragments to choose from. Facet of Purpose takes the lead with its unrivaled access to some of Destiny 2's strongest survivability keywords, including the likes of Frost Armor and Restoration. Facet of Dawn gives every Prismatic build easy access to Radiant, and Protection is a great choice for aggressive builds that need more damage resistance (DR).
This is the only tier where we'll be ranking Facet of Blessing and Solitude, as these two Fragments are tailored for PvP use. Blessing makes it easy to heal after a close-range duel, and Solitude allows for some downright overpowered combinations with Prismatic—notably Hunters triggering Stylish Executioner with Hand Cannon three taps.
Facet Of Purpose | Grants easy access to strong survivability tools, both in PvE and PvP. Restoration (Solar) and Woven Mail (Strand) are ideal for most builds. |
---|---|
Facet Of Dawn | Powered melee hits grant access to Radiant, a 25% weapon damage buff. Lasts 10 seconds. Not used as much due to Radiant Orbs, but this Fragment will become more widespread once the season ends. |
Facet Of Protection | Provides 15% damage resistance while near 3+ enemies. Easy to trigger in PvE with high uptime. More niche pick in PvP but still useful. |
PvP Only | |
Facet Of Blessing | Immediately triggers HP regeneration with melee kills, including uncharged punches. Also triggers off ranged attacks like Threaded Spike. Makes 1v2 situations much easier. |
Facet Of Solitude | Rapid precision hits Sever targets, reducing outgoing damage by 15% in PvP. Can be triggered with three headshots on certain Hand Cannons, allowing Hunters to proc Stylish Executioner from neutral. S+ on Hunter, A- on Warlock and Titan. |
A-Tier Fragments
Fragments in this tier are quite powerful and are always worth using. They have strong neutral game benefits, offer a useful bonus to more common build archetypes, or otherwise are easy to use. Some might be surprised to see Facet of Awakening in this tier. It can spawn every elemental pickup in the game, greatly reducing your cooldowns the more damage types you use.
Facet Of Balance | Triple kills grant bonus energy. Light damage grants 10% melee energy, and Darkness damage grants 10% grenade energy. Solid neutral game Fragment for every build. Works with weapons and abilities. |
---|---|
Facet Of Courage | Light abilities deal 10% more damage to enemies affected by Darkness debuffs. Great choice for ability-focused builds like Combination Blow Hunters and Consecration Titans. |
Facet Of Awakening | Multikills spawn an elemental pickup of the matching damage type. Pickups adhere to spawn cooldowns. Criminally underrated by most. This Fragment can spawn every pickup in the game, greatly increasing ability uptime. |
Facet Of Mending | Grenade kills grant x1 Cure, increased to x2 while Transcendent. Solid neutral game Fragment for all builds. Does not work with Grapple. |
Facet Of Hope | While affected by any keyword, your class ability recharges 60% faster. A good choice for most Prismatic builds, both for PvE and PvP. |

B-Tier Fragments
Don't mistake Fragments in this tier as being weak or suboptimal. Fragments in this tier aren't as universal as the previous tiers, but they offer powerful effects if you can activate them. The build makes the Fragment shine, not the Fragment itself. Rankings in this tier can effectively shift up or down a tier depending on the build.
Facet Of Dominance | Void grenades inflict 15% Weaken. Arc grenades inflict Jolt. A must for builds that use either grenade type. |
---|---|
Facet Of Bravery | Melee kills grant Unraveling Rounds. Grenade kills grant Volatile Rounds. Ideal choice for ability spam builds that use Void and Strand weapons. |
Facet Of Ruin | Stasis Shatters are larger and deal more damage. Solar Ignitions are 20% larger. Great choice for builds that lean into Stasis or Solar Ignitions. |
Facet Of Generosity | While Transcendent, kills generate Orbs of Power. Turns Transcendence into a diet Super for your team. S-tier support, but it does nothing for solo players. |
Facet Of Grace | Kinetic weapon kills generate 2% Light and Dark Transcendence energy. While Transcendent, this applies to allies as well. An excellent choice for Transcendent builds looking to maximize their Transcendence uptime. Poor option for other builds. |
C-Tier Fragments
Now we're getting to the lackluster options. Fragments in this tier are weak and generally not worth using. Facet of Devotion and Sacrifice sound good on paper, but these Fragments hardly pull any weight in practice. If Bungie buffs any of these Fragments, they'd sit firmly in the B tier.
Facet Of Devotion | Defeating targets affected by Darkness debuffs grants 2-5% Light Transcendence energy. Devotion is better than Sacrifice since it works with weapons and scales with enemy type. It still remains a niche pick for most builds. |
---|---|
Facet Of Honor | Elemental pickups grant 5-10% Transcendence energy of the same type, depending on the pickup type. Energy received is low. It's only worth using if paired with Awakening and certain Exotics. |
Facet Of Sacrifice | While you have a Light subclass buff, ability kills grant 2% Darkness Transcendence energy. The value is static and doesn't scale. You'd need 50 kills to charge your Darkness meter. |
Facet Of Command | Grants +20 stability, +20 aim assist, and +20 airborne effectiveness for 10 seconds when you freeze or suppress a target. Activating this Fragment also automatically reloads your held weapon, but this cannot occur while already affected by Command. Only worth using for auto-loading DPS hotswap loadouts. Even then, it's a tough sell. |

D-Tier Fragments
Only two Fragments on Prismatic are downright awful: Facet of Justice and Defiance. Justice deals poor damage over a small area with limited uptime, while Defiance is arguably worthless in most PvE content. They don't excel anywhere and are overshadowed by other options.
Facet Of Justice | While Transcendent, your ability kills trigger explosions. Explosions deal minimal damage, cover a small radius, and don't synergize with other Fragments. |
---|---|
Facet Of Defiance | Finishers debuff nearby targets with a keyword matching your Super. Debuff selection is poor for PvE; it does nothing in PvP. |
